Crossed by the Orcia river, from which took its name, this amazing area on the south of Tuscany, today it’s a protected area, and an UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2004. The nature is the undisputed protagonist of Val d’Orcia, still uncontaminated and so beautiful with different colors for every season. Medieval castles, rolling hills ancient villages, cypress lined roads, amazing vineyards, soft olive tree groves and golden grain fields: those are just a few of the elements that together create the amazing landscape of Val d’Orcia. Val d’Orcia’s gorgeous panoramas have inspired many renaissance painters with their small villages, castles, abbeys and small towns, each one with its incredible history. Here time passes very slowly. It’s still possible to admire and discover villages like Pienza, a real jewel known as the “ideal town”: a true renaissance monument projected by Pio II, famous humanistic pope. And again Bagno Vignoni with its thermal baths, Abbadia San Salvatore and its ancient benedictine abbey, Radicofani that rises on top of a hill all the way down to the edge of the valley with its majestic tower. And how not to mention Montalcino, overawed by the hill fort built in the XIV century that offers a unique view of the valley, or Siena, situated within 50km from the resort, and Florence two hours by car away from our Locanda in Tuscany. It’s possible to organize a one day tour to those amazing cities. It’s not easy to find a location that can impress a tourist like this one.
